What To Do AFTER The Fire
8/12/2019 (Permalink)
Becoming a victim of a fire loss is never on anyone's list of 'to do's', but when or if it does happen to you or a loved one - it's good to have a checklist of what you need to do right away:
After the fire - your first call should be to your insurance agent to get the claim process rolling.
Next - you should locate or start replacement of:
- driver’s license
- insurance policies
- military discharge papers
- Passports
- birth, death, marriage certificates
- social security or medical cards
- credit cards
- titles to deeds
- stocks and bonds
- wills
- medical records
- warranties
- finance & income tax records
- citizenship papers
- mortgage papers
Know your coverage as most policies will cover temporary living expenses in addition to coverage of your home and contents. The mitigation and restoration process can take months - depending upon the extent of the fire, smoke and odor damage to your property.
