Most house fires start in the Kitchen. Here are 10 tips on how to prevent kitchen fires in your home:
- Never leave your cooking area unattended.
- To avoid grease buildup, clean cooking surfaces regularly.
- While cooking near an open flame, never wear loose clothing.
- Keep potholders, towels, utensils, plastic bags, oven mitts etc. away from anything that generates heat in your kitchen.
- Before going to bed or leaving your home, check your kitchen to make your sure everything is turned off.
- Make sure to have smoke alarms installed in your kitchen and throughout your home and make sure they are working.
- When cooking, use a timer to remember the stove and/or oven is in use.
- Keep electric appliances are not in use, keep them unplugged.
- When using your microwave, make sure you are using microwave safe containers.
- Do not overfill pots and pans with oil or grease.
